Parade of Lights
Josh, Reid and I were asked to be Mary, Joseph and Jesus (although not in that order) on our church's Christmas float! We participated in Halifax's Parade of Lights and also the Light up Bedford parade this past weekend. It was fairly cold (to us, not the rest of Canada), but people came out in droves to watch the annual parades. Reid did very well - the first night he did cry at the end of the route, but last night he was an absolute super star and didn't make one peep the entire night! We got a lot of cheering from the crowd about the "real live baby Jesus" on our float! And also a lot of "Happy Halloween" from the kids, which they thought was quite funny. One little boy also yelled, "There's God!" when he saw Reid. I thought that was just hilarious! Here are some pictures taken by other people!

The dreaded staff Christmas party.
I have never been a fan of socializing with the people I work with. I don't go for lunch with other colleagues, I don't text or facebook with them after work hours or on weekends. I like them all well enough, but lets face it. I see them 8 (or more) hours a day, 5 days a week. I really don't want them more than that.
Well, 'tis the season for the dreaded staff Christmas party. In the past, I have definitely been that person who never went to anything. I decided that this year, I would go. Josh and I got dolled up, drove into Dartmouth and were, of course, the first ones there and had to make awkward small talk with the owners of my daycare for about 40 MINUTES while other colleagues arrived.
The free drinks/appetizers and full on meal were appreciated, although the group games (complete with the drunk owners yelling instructions through a microphone) were not. Also, I did love getting a Christmas card from said owners with $10 in it, "a token of our (the owners') love".
All in all, I (we) did it, it was not horrible, and I was home and in bed by 10:15. Until next year.

Pre-Christmas Crafting!
Yesterday Josh and I crafted a homemade faux leather headboard for our bed. We consulted a few websites and also some YouTube videos about how to put this project together. We visited our local fabric store and got some great advice from the old lady who worked there! All in all, we spent about $100 and ended up with a pretty great looking headboard! We made it big enough to fit a queen size bed when the time comes for us to have one...for the time being, our double still looks better with this lovely leather piece!

crafting
these last few weeks i have been working on a project - a small blanket! most people have this impression of me that i am quite a crafty and creative person. this is not necessarily accurate. i don't really enjoy crafting...unless i have something specific in mind and have my mother to help me. i wish i was more crafty and creative. but the fact is, i'm not. so be it. however, i'm quite pleased with how this project turned out. i'm not sure if you can tell by the pictures, but the backing of the blanket in strawberries and flowers - quite cute! i have someone in mind to give this blanket to, but i don't think i'll reveal that quite yet. surprises are best left a mystery!

crafting
