here comes the bride....me!

12 days ago, Josh flew to Manitoba as a single guy and when he left, he was engaged. To me! We're both incredibly excited to begin our married life together in September. The wedding will be here in Killarney on September 6, 2009. Josh works in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (across the harbour from Halifax) and we have an apartment there that will be ours on August 1. So as of September 6, I'll be a Nova Scotian, which I'm very much looking forward to :)

i've been reading on some of my friends' blogs about "being tagged" to tell 7 things no one knows about you. which i think loosely translates into "7 random things about you" because obviously things others don't know about you haven't been told for a reason, right? and i haven't been tagged by anyone, but i thought i'd do it anyway.

7 Random Things About Me:

1. i shaved my head in the summer of 1998. my hair came in all curly after that. perhaps others wishing for natural curls should try it??

2. i like to tell people that i like reading true stories and biographies and those kind of "deep soul" books, but really...there is nothing better than settling down with some good chick lit.

3. when i get married i want to adopt babies, but i'm scared that once i actually get to that stage in my life i will forget about my South Africa life and how those babies need a family. i'm afraid i won't care anymore.

4. i once asked a boy out on a date and he said yes. it was very awkward and then i had to borrow Gran and Boppa's car to drive to Brandon to see a movie. i can't believe i did that, and i can't believe i actually liked that boy. it was the first date i ever went on and there hasn't been one since.

5. i don't like pie.

6. i talk to myself. make up conversations with other people, what i would say to them, or go back in time in my head and tell people what i really thought of them. but i know from experience it's often best to keep silent. sometimes after i've had a really good "talk" with myself, i wonder why i haven't written a book yet, because obviously i'm very talented! but then i realize i coulnd't possibly write enough pages to fill all that empty space.

7. when i hear a really good song, i repeat it over and over again. probably it would annoy someone else if they were in the room. but good songs are worth hearing again and again. right now i'm listening to "Where I Stood" by Missy Higgins...an Australian singer/songwriter. i discovered her in South Africa, from an Aussie friend there. she sent me Missy's new album and it is lovely. check it out here

this whole list thing reminds of the book "Can You Keep a Secret" by Sophie Kinsella (yes, a chick lit book!) where a girl tells all of her secrets to a stranger she met on a plane. very fun!

in like a lion

March has come in like a lion, in the form of snow, lots of snow. We have probably had about a foot of snow in the last 2 days. My 15 minute walk to work took me at least half a hour, trudging through thick, unplowed streets.

I had $1295.00 left over from my Haiti fundraising, which I have to TLC in South Africa (where I volunteered) and to a group from Killarney going to Mexico during spring break, to do missions work. I feel like this was the right thing to do and I know that it will go a long way to help others in need around the world.

My Belfast family (as I've been calling them) have agreed to allow me to fly into London and spend a few days with my dear friend Mark! I am really excited about this, as I haven't seen him for 2 years. Also, my friend Becki lives there too, so I am hoping to meet up with her as well. After a few days in London, I'll hop over to Belfast and meet Neil and Joanne and their twins girls.

This week I have been really into the Dixie Chicks' latest album, "Taking the Long Way" which came out last year, but which I have rediscovered lately. I love the Dixie Chicks. Also, I ordered "Shopaholic and Baby" from Amazon.ca and it will be here soon! For those of you who know the Shopaholic books, I'm sure you will understand my excitement! And for those of you who don't know, you must read them! They are great for a no-brainer chick lit read.

AND I have pre-ordered my copy of "Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows", due out July 21! I am quite excited about this last book of Harry and his adventures. Any other HP fans out there? My friend Lacey is getting married in July, and she is also a HP fan, so I'm buying her the seventh book as a wedding present. She is pumped, as her fiancee wouldn't let her put the book on their registry, as that would make her look like a dork.

and so the year has come to a close. some new year "resolutions" - or really just a list of things i'd like to improve on in the coming year.

1) be more classy
2) always be myself (even if that means not being classy!)
3) always buy V-neck shirts (they look best on me)
4) cook more
5) start reading my Bible more
6) read more non-fiction
7) save more money
8) make more time for friends

i've realized almost everything i've written has the word "more" in it. why is more always better? what about less? what about watching less TV, or gossiping less, or judging others less, or critiquing less? i think less is often more.

how do you eat your kiwi?

these last few days i've been working in the produce department at work. i've noticed that kiwi's are packaged in a box that says, "Kiwi: the fruit that comes in a fuzzy wrapper". i found that funny. i eat my kiwi by slicing it in half, then scooping it out with a spoon. many people i've talked to find that odd.

Things on a List

taking a page out of Hillary's book:

1) I like when someone picks me up from work, so I don't have to walk home in the cold.
2) I'm not nearly as excited about Christmas as I used to be. For some reason, it is just not a big deal this year.
3) I have lost my birth certificate and my Manitoba Health Card and am hoping there isn't someone out there pretending to be me.
4) I am disappointed that Kandice and Dustin have gotten eliminated on "The Amazing Race". I really liked them. But I also like the boys and hope they win.
5) I am glad Caridee won on "America's Next Top Model".
6) I love wearing sweat pants.
7) I hate people who keep saying, "I know I am annoying, but..." What is annoying is that people keep saying they are annoying.
8) I have always wanted to buy those Christmas gift tags, that you just stick onto the present and write To and From. This year I finally bought some. I can't wait to use them!
9) I love reading Harry Potter.
10) I think about South Africa and TLC and my babies every day. I miss them. This is what I am missing.

the big hairy question

is your hair curly? what do you use for shampoo/conditioner and other hair products? i usually use whatever shampoo/conditioner i can find (i always try to switch it up), except remember NEVER to use Suave. let my mistake be a lesson to all of you. and then i use Alberto Moussing Gel. i've used that since bible school, and once in a while i try something new, but i always go back to the moussing gel. so tell me.

this afternoon, me and mom were in the car in the parking lot of the mall here in town. mom is starting to back out of the parking spot. here is how our conversation goes.
Mom: Leah, what is in that backseat?!
Me: Where? (I'm frantically looking into our backseat)
Mom: What is that? Over there!
Me: WHERE?
Mom: (pointing and laughing) There!!
Me: Is that a COW???
Mom: It's a cow! Or is it just the head?
Me: (while mom is driving by slowly) That is a cow in the backseat of a car.
Mom: (laughing hysterically) Is it moving? It can't be!
Me: This cannot be happening!
Mom: This will be a GREAT story for tonight at supper! They'll never guess!!

So yes. mom and i saw a COW (calf) in the backseat of an old white bomb of a car! it even blinked at us! what a sight. so we get home and say to the Fam we have a guessing game for them (we often do this).
Me: Okay, me and mom saw something today in the mall parking lot that you will NEVER guess. it was in the backseat of a car. Dad, this is something that even YOU will have never seen!
Amy: 2 people having sex.
Me: No.
Dad: A cow in the backseat of a car.
Me: What! How did you know that?

It turns out that Dad knows this guy who puts cows in his backseat to take them to the vet. apparantely my dad has seen everything. i have never seen anything so weird as a huge cow's head looking at me from the backseat of a car.
